Security:

Kenya is a relatively safe country. However visitors should at all times keep their valuables, either in a safe if their place of accommodation has one or have the valuables securely kept. At the same time, visitors should avoid walking late in the night alone especially in places they are not familiar with, if a visitor stays out late, always take a taxi cab. Get the telephone number of a listed taxi companies from your hosts.

Health:

The biggest health risk for visitors coming to Kenya is Malaria. This is caused by an insect called Mosquito. Prior to travelling a visitor should visit their doctor to get an anti-malarial drug. If this is not available, the visitor should always ensure that they sleep under a mosquito net at all times and at the same time have some insect repellent with them, especially when they are out-doors.

Another health risk is the water. Visitors should avoid taking tap water as it may be contaminated, therefore a visitor should either buy bottled water (which are readily available), or ask for boiled water from their hosts.

Banking:

There are several banks and forex bureaus in Kenya especially within the major cities and towns. A visitor can therefore perform any bank or cash transactions with no problems. Most banks in Kenya open at 9.00 am and close at 3.00 pm on weekdays and from 9.00 am to 11.00 am on Saturdays.

Electricity:

The electric voltage in Kenya is 220/240 volts, therefore the visitor should check any electrical appliances they may have carried to ensure that they are compatible to avoid accidents. There are electrical shops available where any electric appliances such us step-down can be bought.
